I too recall the interesting and pretty designs on handkerchiefs. We used to get very fancy boxes with hankies in them for Christmas and sometimes on birthdays (not impressive when one is 7 or 8 but great when I was a little older). Love the cute ones in the bottom picture - what an interesting bit of folk art.

These are just beautiful! What a gorgeous collection, you have!!!

Have you ever seen "You've Got Mail"? There's a scene in there where a little girl sneezes and Meg Ryan loans her hankie to her and the little girl asks what it is. Meg ryan says, "Oh! It's a handkerchief, it's a tissue that you don't throw away!" and she goes on to fuss about what a shame it is that children don't know what handkerchiefs are! I've never seen a lady use a handkerchief, either -- just my grandfathers and theirs were jus plain white ones.

Yours are gorgeous!

sorry for the long comment!

I, too, got those boxes of hankies when I was a girl. My grandmother said you always had to have one in your purse!!!!

I'm drooling over your hankies! I just love them!
