I am getting ready to launch my website!

With each stitch that passes, my thoughts turn to the website I want to someday create to sell my embroidery on. It all comes from visiting you creative bloggers and visiting your etsy shops. You are so inspiring! Maybe it is the area I live in,and maybe the fact that embroidery is not really sought out, but when I tell folks that I hand embroider, they don't show a sign of interest. I have gotten more interest and more encouragement from you my blogging friends,.. thank you! This weekend, I visited with an email friend, who has a wonderful website, and she has encouraged me to use the website builders she uses as a way of selling my embroidery. Go visit Donna at Quilt books, Fabric, ect. http://www.freewebs.com/quiltingspecial/ when you get a chance, her many items are wonderful to look at. So I worked and am still working on the coaster set that I hope to one day sell. I thought a bee and a butterfly would be good to add to the spring set of coasters. As you can see, I am still working on the butterfly.
What is more endearing than a bee on lilacs?I still need to stitch the edging around it. If you click on the pictures you can see the stitch work much better. I know I need to learn to take pictures of my work better if I am to place them on my website. I really want to work on some of my own linen designs for this website. I hope to have linens for the kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bath. Which means I need to get to stitchin'! I am going to start off small, offering just a few of things I have made. Then slowly work my way up to more things. My biggest worry is how to accept payments and how to figure postage. Any suggestions? I will let you know when I get my website ready. I am hoping to accomplish this by the end of this month. Now my question, ..... should I keep the name Yesteryear Embroideries, or should I name it something else? Any suggestions? I would love to hear!

It would be interesting to hear how you figure out all the in's and out's of the web business. We have a web site but do not sell from it.
Your hand work is very pretty and it is an art form that is sure to be wanted by others! I have many pieces from my mother. Each one is cherished and cared for...and used! :) We have a gal who teaches classes in embroidery in town. It's well attended.
I like your name as it is.

I love the name "Yesteryear Embroideries," too. I sell my dolls from two websites, using CCNOW for credit card sales. I set up my new Etsy shop to accept Paypal.
Best wishes on your new shop!

Hello, thank you for stopping by. I love your embroidered lilacs, just beautiful. Can't wait to see your website! I'm starting a new blog on Friday doing the Flea Market Friday and First Friday. I'll be selling some vintage finds and some of my silk ribbon embroidery.
Blessings, Shirl

I like the name Yesteryear Embroideries, everyone I know who sells online does PayPal so people can use credit cards, and I'm not sure about the postage thing other than using a good digital postal scale and buying plenty of stamps! Be sure to charge handling as well as actual postage - it is work (plus the cost of envelopes or boxes or whatever) to ship things.

I love your embroidery. My mother taught us to embroider when we were little and I do appreciate it. My embroidery skills are rusty and every so often I am drawn back to embroidery. I am teaching one of my granddaughters to embroider and she loves it so much she designs and embroiders at home before anyone in the household gets up in the morning. ( she just turned 7) When and where do you embroider ? I always find the whens and wheres of a person's creativity interesting and sometimes inspiring ! and hey...inquiring minds want to know ! Thanks everyone for your comments, and Kathyb, your little granddaughter sounds like she will wind up being a great stitcher! I embroider as soon and every minute when I get my household chores done. Which means I clean the house before I go to sleep at night so that I can start to work on my embroidery as soon as possible. I have my favorite places, outside on the front porch and back patio when the weather permits, (the light is so much better for stitches and colors) or in my favorite chair when the weather is too cold, and I either listen to music or watch an old movie. If I have a design to work up, I use the dining room table which is beside our large windows and I can look out and watch the birds. I stitch a total of about 8 hours throughout the day and night, stopping to take care of daily tasks and starting my stitching back up. If everyone else in the family is gone to work or school, I don't have to stop to cook until later in the afternoon. Thanks for asking, blessings, Kathleen

Have you used Paypal before? its so easy and convenient for your customers...and a postal scale is a necessity...fortunately embroidered work is usually light and easy to mail..don't have to worry about breakage either!
