The Inspiration Of Blossoms

The Italian Jasmine is starting to show of is calico dress of cheery yellow blossoms.
I removed the Christmas poinsettia and holly out of the flower boxes. Because it is almost Valentine's day....my favorite holiday.... I thought these silk flowers with pink and white would be pretty for that day.

They perk up the house in the winter sun.

My mailbox is full of the new flower and vegetable seed catalogs. I can't wait to start ordering for the new season's planting, but I also love the books for the color they show in the flowers.

They are a great guide in deciding which color a flower should be and which hues of color goes best with another. I love vintage catalogs for this reason. As you can see, this is from 1894. The colors just call to me.

As well as the seed packets. These packets are from the 1920's and the seed company captured the prettiest colors for the flower.

When I see packets like these.....

I pull out my floss collection and start matching colors.

All I need then, is a wonderful piece of white cotton fabric, "my blank canvas"

and some vintage transfers or designs... and I can get lost in stitches all day! What about you? What color or color combination catches your eye the most? Do you decorate with silk flowers as well as real flowers? I would love to hear!

So you are thinking spring already. Its been nice here but I know winter is not over. Due to the hot summers, snacking deer and gophers I tend to go with flowering herbs. Lavendar is my favorite. I have made small bags to hold the dried buds, maybe I should sketch a lavendar plant on the front and embroider. I also make lavendar cookies which I will share later. (the recipe that is)

I have always loved old seed packets and catalogs - I think they remind me of summer days spent with my grandma in her garden. I love silk flowers but my cats usually get to them and destroy them. In my kitchen, my wall color etc. was inspired by mama's Hull vases, which are peachy pink, pale yellow, and mint green.

This is definitely the time of year that the possibilities of seed catalogs cry out to you, isn't it? I love the unending hope encased in each seed.

Outside it is real, and trust me, it's going to be a good 4 or 5 months before I see anything growing out there!! Inside I have a couple fake plants, no really good windowspots for real ones to sun in. Plus my wild child Mandi probably wouldn't leave them alone!

Have a wonderful day!

Aren't seeds just wonderful? Each spring when I get out my seeds, nestle them into moist planting medium and send them off into the world to become what God deemed, my soul literally sings with joy!

Hello thank you so much for stopping by! I'm in the mood for spring too, we just got 6 inches of snow last night and today so we have a long way to go. I've been going through the garden seed catalogs and dreaming! Your seed packets are so pretty, I love to use them in crafting! I want to do some embroidery on dark felt, any ideas on how to mark a pattern on it? I tired using my light table but it does not work.
Bless You, Shirl
