Winter has arrived, a good night to stitch

The weather here in our area has been in the 80's for a couple or more weeks. Any kind of temperature drop, is cold to me. Today, there have been more birds than usual, gathering seed,...they know what's coming....a cold spell. A REAL cold spell. The forecast says it is to be this cold all week, tonight there is to be patches of "frozen fog"......I didn't know fog froze. What happens when you drive through a wall of "frozen fog?"
Sophie and I took off for a late afternoon walk, if you look off in the distance, you can see the fog coming our way.

By the time she and I made it to the main road, the temperature dropped, the wind bit our faces, and the fog was coming at us like a blanket....but not a frozen wall yet... we didn't want to wait around to see if it actually would freeze.... the coyotes sounded more scary than usual.

Sophie was more than glad to lead the way home, and we both were glad to see the welcoming light from the window.

Sophie found her spot to spend the cold winter night, in front of a crackling fire. Soon she will be lightly barking in her sleep....chasing those cows in some warm pasture far away.

Salem was waiting for me along with my stitch work.He is my companion while I sew, sometimes approving a skein of floss with his outstretched paw. So this is where I will be as I listen to the wind blow around the house tonight. With a week of this to come, I won't be outside much..... I will get a lot of stitching done. Now, tell me.... how do you spend your cold winter nights? Watching an old movie, perhaps? Putting together a jigsaw puzzle, or stitching a new creation? I would love to hear.

UPDATE ON THE COLD SPELL THAT MOVED IN LAST NIGHT

I was awoken by the phone ringing at 5:30 A.M with the school telling me that classes and buses would be delayed until 10:00 A.M. Then the bus driver called me to say that the buses would not run at all and that my son would have an excused absence from school if we did not want to try driving him in. We live 30 miles away from school on roads that are treacherous during these times. So he has the day off. I go out to check on all of the animals and hear the crunching and snapping of the frozen woods surrounding me.

Everything is coated in layers of ice and the wind chill is even worse. All of my critters were tucked in their hay and warm, so off I go back to my stitching and I think I will make a hot pot of soup today. Stay warm everyone!!

Sophie and Salem are just sweet as can be! Your home looks so warm and inviting. As I sit during the cold winter evenings, I like to catch up on reading blogs; I seldom watch tv. My dog sleeps on the floor beside me and the cats occasionally jump into my lap to make holding the laptop interesting!!! Have fun stitching.

Thanks for your sweet comment on my tablescape. I think I do tablescapes better than the cooking...but, we aren't dead, so I guess I do ok!!

never heard of frozen fog either, odd to say the least....and its been a cold day here in Southern Cali...in the high 40s-50s all day..it was 80 last week..
Bandit like Salem, likes to hang around and keep me company when I stitch too....what is it about cats and stitching?

Ryan and I spent this cold winter evening at Josh and Amber's apartment. He had invited us over for supper. He cooked a frozen pizza for us lol, and we watched at movie together, City of Ember.

I love seeing Sophie warm her bottom by the fire. Smart girl! Oh love to stitch and read and watch movies with popcorn. I love to sit by the woodstove and just dream of springtime. Or play board games in the floor with my boys.

Smiles,
Lea

I think the weather you had yesterday and heading our way today... I am with you it doesn't take much if a drop from when it has been in the 80's to relize winter has hit... but the question always is how long will it last?
Stay warm!

Dear Kathleen,
Thank you for sharing your lovely photos and walk. So glad you and sweet Sophia had the warmth of a light waiting for you at your lovely home! She and Salem are just adorable. I love to stitch, read a good book, or watch a movie with my dear husband, sweet son, and Pearl the Poodle in these cold winter evenings! Enjoy your stitching!
Love, Paula

Our pets are so smart about being cozy and comfortable - and tolerant with us about getting outside in rugged weather! Fun update

That fireplace looked so warm and inviting -- I'd join Sophie there, too!!!!! I never heard the term "frozen fog" before, but I have seen all that frozen stuff on trees and plants. You are right --- a great week to spend inside stitching away!!!!!

Hasn't the weather been weird? Mother Nature can't make up her mind.....but I must say I love fog. Sophie and Salem have the right idea...a toasty fire and naps. My kitty likes to sit with me when I stitch and if I'm on the sofa, Lily (my sweet dog) wants up too. When I stay in I love to read, or stitch and I love old movies...I always find something to enjoy...you keep warm and cozy too...hugs, Linda

OOOOH BRRRRR!
The ice is pretty, but can do so much damage. Sophie is one smart cookie- she's staying by the fire!!

I can't believe we live on the same planet sometimes. While you are trying to keep warm inside while the snow and ice keeps kids at home from school, we are literally burning up across The Pacific Pond. Today in Melbourne itwas the hottest day on record - it got to 46.4 deg.C, which is about 116 deg.F. Can you imagine what that feels like? Awful, even worse if you don't have air conditioning (which we do, thankfully). Bushfires are all over our state, massive losses of property and life. Please parcel up some of your snow and send it by airmail!
