Wild Roses

I love roses of all kinds, especially if they are in hues of pink. But I am particularly fond of the wild roses you see growing around old homesteads. They have a different shape, more of a open petal look, and they have such a wonderful heavy fragrance! Oh, be still my heart!
When I was young, my mother found a scarlet red wild rose growing where an old house had been torn down. It was blooming, even though there was no one left to enjoy it's beauty. She dug it up, took it home, and it is still growing and blooming all over her grounds ......that was so many years ago. You can smell the fragrance way down the road. My grandmother's dishes have the "Virginia Rose" design on them. I have always loved these dishes over the rest of my treasures.
I finally found a design that is almost identical in form and color as to these dishes. I am planning on decorating my dining room in these kinds of roses and in shades of green. I am planning on stitching this design on to a tablecloth and also cushions for the dining room chairs.

My colors are picked out, my needle is ready.......
Spring break has come to my area, which means I will have time with my Sweetie, who is off from work and my son who will be out of school for the week. Hopefully, I will be able to get done with a project I am currently stitching and be able to begin this rose design. I hope you all have a wonderful week. Thank you to all who stop by to comment. I will catch up with you all next week and maybe have a few petals stitched to show you! My question to you is.... what type of rose do you like best? The old heavy scented cabbage roses? Perhaps, the tight perfect bulb shaped roses in pale hues? I can't wait to hear!

I like any kind of roses, but also the wild ones too. I really notice the pretty roses in city municipal gardens and city parks etc. The wild roses are pretty too. You have the prettiest colors of embroidery thread in that photo. Makes me want to look at mine. We are going rving and I am taking some embroidery while I bask in the hopefully sunny weather.

Hi Kathleen, I soo love roses too...especially the pinks. Your dishes are beautiful and treasures for sure, the plans for your dininig room sound lovely. I've always wanted dishes with roses, maybe someday. I collect plates and bits of china with roses and this makes me happy. My favorite rose is named Secret...pretty pink and very fragrant...the bush was a gift from my daughter and I always take time to stop and smell the roses..don't you thnk everyone should do that. Enjoy your stitching, hugs, Linda

p.s. I think can smell your Mom's roses:)

Hi Kathleen, I love the china from your grandmother - doubly precious. I have a Blaze rose that climbs our back fence. We've had it for many years and it is such a dark red it's almost black. Its fragrance is heavenly. It is my favorite rose in all the world. But then, too, I've never seen one I didn't like. :)
Hugs, Elaine

I have to agree with papel1 - the roses I like best are the ones I see or smell! In my personal garden - my Chicago Peace roses are my favorites - for sheer gaudy size of the blooms and aroma. What beautiful work you do Kathleen - I so admire your patience in finding just the right colors and designs. Lovely.

I love the old heirloom roses! They have more fragrance and are so lovely (and thorny!) But I love my little Iceberg rose bush too! Not many thorns, beautiful white flowers, and a lovely fragrance!

I can't wait to see your tablecloth!

I could not believe my eyes - your grandma's Virginia Rose dishes are the same as my grandma's. I love these dishes so much. I originally inherited her pie plate and have gradually added to the collection. My favorite rose is the Cherokee Rose, Georgia's state flower. Thank you for a delightful post and enjoy your week.

I am a fan of most all roses. I only have one requirement. They must be fragrant. If the rose doesn't smell like a rose, I have no use for it.

I have a patch of wild Cherokee Rose on the hill above my garden. When it is in full bloom, it smells like heaven:-)

Can't wait to see you new creation.

It is hard to pick a favorite rose because they all hold special attributes. I am a fan of climbing roses....the wall of color they make.....makes me just giddy!!!

Excited to see your grandmother's dishes. I have quite an extensive set of the same dishes that were my Great Grandmothers!
I love roses... any rose. I think they are the most beautiful flower! I just love my roses.
You have inspired me to make matching linens for my dishes...
