Sharing a common thread with those who love the art of hand embroidery

I have always loved putting florals and plaids together..........

especially in quilting..........the two designs just give a charm that I personally love.
One of my favorite and very simple quilt patterns is the nine patch..........there is so much one can do with just 9 small squares.

This week I decided to use the 9 patch as a canvas for my embroidery...........

and I stitched up a few potholders............... I meant to say, hot pads or trivets,  using this process. I love the way they turned out. These are not really thick enough to be pot holders, but they add such a sweet accent to the table to place a warm casserole onto or a tea pot.
How about you?
Do you like to mix fabric patterns?
What is you favorite?
I would love to hear.

Florals and stripes together go so well. I love the way to have embroidered the blocks. You have beautiful creative talent.

I love how you used embroidery on the patchwork. So much texture, which is what I love about needlework. Usually I just do embroidery on the plain fabric in a quilt, but doing it on the patterned fabric looks better! Thanks for sharing!

I love how you did the embroidery on the patchwork! Those potholders are much too pretty to use!

Now who in the world would want to use those beautiful pot holders? Not me... much too pretty.

I've never thought about what I mix together. Hmmmm, maybe I should. I do know that I like plaids and florals but I do NOT like gingham, alone or mixed with other fabrics. I wonder why? OH well, that's just me.

I love, love, love those potholders. I do love mixing pattern in color. I seem able to do it with abandon in my home decorating, but when it comes to crafting, I'm not quite so confident. Your work is beautiful!

I can't believe you are getting snow over there when Chicago and Michigan are having temps in the 60s. Weather certainly is off this year it seems.

Hope your week is great. Tammy

I do like to mix florals and plaids; string quilts are my favorites and they're a mixture of everything, even fabrics that might be considered ugly when by themselves. Your embroidery stitches made the nine patches lovely. What do you use inside the potholders to make them thick enough to use on hot things?

I love the way you can turn the ordinary into treasures with your beautiful embroidery. The mix of florals and plaids is a great look. I will have to agree with the others that your potholders are much too pretty to use!

I love the unexpected....so mixing all sorts of fabrics and all sorts of textures is something I do a lot....and then to add some stitching! I love the way you have embroidered your hotpads...stitches creeping into the next block..it looks wonderful!

I love your fabric combinations, Kathleen, and the idea of making hot pads for the table is wonderful. They look so pretty. They are so cheery in the kitchen!

Enjoy the day, with some fun surprises mixed in.
