The yellow roses on the patio

are blooming and have inspired me
to dig this piece out to embroider.

I used to not care for stamped embroidery because I felt it limited me in the way I wanted to show off color in the design................

however, I have learned to go beyond the stamping and as you know me well for...........
add a few extra stitches to make the embroidery come to life and to look more vibrant.

The leaves are supposed to look like this

but I wanted that purple hue that exists on the real rose leaves

to show up on my embroidery work..............
like this.............

I love the way it looks with just a few more stitches........don't you?
What color would you have chosen for the roses?............
the leaves?...............
the small daisies?
I would love to hear!

I love your work. You inspire me so much. I do a lot of hand work and embroidery. You have now given me a new idea for the stamped cross stitch. Thanks so much!

I probably would have picked pink for the roses although any color is fine. I always enjoy seeing your embroidery.

You were so creative, I had not thought of doing extra things like that with stamped embroidery. Thanks for the great ideas!

Kathleen, you have such a way of imitating nature so beautifully on cloth. I love the leaves, and think they are so much more exciting and attractive with the purple added in. So much like the real thing. I love the roses also. You are such a talented lady, and I'm looking forward to the day your book will be published, but until then keep designing, my dear.

Blessings,

Your colors are perfect and the added stitches really enhance the design.

And eye for design, color and pattern comes so easily to you! That's the mark of a true artist. I have a set of stamped pillowcases that I got from my ex-husband's Nonny -- they must be stuck away in a trunk or drawer or cupboard somewhere here. I will have to start digging stuff out and finishing things up ... one project at a time. :) Happy weekend wishes to you. Tammy

What a beautiful blog full of stitched delights. Your roses, which resemble our orangey yellow ones coming alive this hot May week in France (after relentless rain for weeks) are absolutely beautiful. I too have something against stamped designs but seeing yours has changed my mind a little.

It's wonderful as always, I just picked some baby white roses I had planted they have a touch of red on the edges...It's funny I bought them last valentine's day and half was white and the other half red and now they are kind of white w/a very lite pink tone with a inky dik of red on the very edges. Maybe I would have done that...though I love the oranges and love the leave just beautiful...thank you for sharing your work I love it and love to visit ...Have a great evening..with love Janice

Just found your blog - I'm a sewer too and I put a "painting my house" post on the Craft Party because that's what I am doing right now. In the evenings, I'm embroidering from a class by Karen Ruane's Contemporary Embroidery. I'm your newest follower!

Oh, Kathleen! Those extra stitches make all the difference in the world! It's so pretty! I love what you did with the leaves. The artist in me approves! :-) I love the shades of yellow and orange! I think I would love the roses in lavender and bright lilac too, and they would be beautiful also in deep reds! The daisies are great in blue. You always inspire me!
