I have a large embroidery piece that I am still in the process of stitching

and am not ready to show you yet, however, I do want to show you something that I have been working on. Over the years, wonderful people have been giving me vintage crochet pattern booklets.........which I love to collect.........along with boxes of half used crochet thread of all size and colors.  Some have just a small amount of thread left, while others have hardly been used at all.  I love to crochet with small threads.........but what do I do when I only have a small amount of a thread of a certain color or size?? and when I can't find a match to it to make a larger project??

I crochet the small blocks/motifs  shown in the pattern books.......in the first photo , this one is shown in the bottom left corner.  It is small enough to be able to crochet and to finish in just a day.............plus it's a great way to learn more in my crochet skills.  But what do I do with all of these mix match motifs??
The idea came to me a little while back after finding this beautiful piece in a junk store. Someone crocheted  it beautifully and then it was placed between two pieces of glass, sealed, and fixed to hang on a wall.............

or in a window...........isn't this beautiful??
So that is what I am planning to do.
I will get glass cut to accommodate the motifs I make and  frame them.

I have a lot of inspiration and patterns to keep me busy for a while.
How about you?
Do you like thread crochet?..........or crocheting with yarn better??
What do you do with the little amounts you have left after you are finished with your project?
I would love to hear!

This is great! I have several old booklets like these and have done some doilies from them. Along with the booklets came a bag of assorted threads and a few had enough to make something. Your idea is a good one!
I like to crochet with thread but it takes a while for me to get used to using a smaller hook after crocheting with yarn. I do prefer crocheting with yarn, baby yarn in fact; I find more use for things made from this size yarn.

That's a lovely motif and great way of displaying too!:) I love thread crochet and the delicate work than making afghans. Lovely collection of books. We don't get to see intricate pieces of patterns these days in the books.

That crochet is beautiful! I think that is a very good idea for those little pieces:)

That is a GREAT idea! I have older books too and bits and pieces crocheted just sitting around.

So pretty! I did a bit of crochet awhile back (mainly wash clothes, a scarf and an amigurumi bear) with yarn but will love to learn crocheting with thread so I can make fancy/delicate edgings. I even have the supplies just haven't mastered courage to try yet.

I too have collected these type of crochet threads, but I have yet to do anything with them...

I love that idea. So pretty! My fingers don't work well with a small hook and tiny thread so I much prefer yarn. I do use thin cotton when making my doilies. And am going to one of these days try crochet with DMC floss to make a necklace. We'll see how that goes. I use as much yarn as I can on projects and then whatever is leftover I use to wrap packages, etc. Waste not, want not. :) Have a terrific Tuesday. Tammy

That is a brilliant idea! I have never been able to crochet (or tat!) but I do appreciate the work, and I have a lot of crocheted doilies in my collection. This is a super way to display some of them.

I have been saving lots of Pinterest ideas for crochet, embroidery and other things like lace-making and weaving. I WILL start doing these things!!!! :-) A friend told me to be careful of older embroidery thread being dry rot. You should pull the strands tight between your hands to make sure they don't snap. Good advice! Most of my thread, etc. is old. I love the ideas of placing a doily between two pieces of glass and hanging them in a window, as long as it's indirect light. Love that! I hope I'll have some things to show you one of these days. I actually want to do a few Christmas presents...we'll see how much I get done in (what?) 19 weeks????
