Can any of you tell me.... website or blog...should I or should I not?

Talking over making my website with my son, he suggested that I just use this blog to sell my things or create another blog to sell my embroidered items. However, I hesitate. I searched everything on the "conditions" of blogspot and can not find any thing on selling. Also, would anyone take offense if I did this? I notice so many of you have your pretty things on Etsy. I do not wish to offend anyone or cross over any lines by selling my things on this blog. I really need your advice and thoughts, especially honesty on this subject. Don't worry, it won't upset me if you think this is not a good idea. I just love blogspot because it is so easy to set up photos and pages. Since I wont have a lot to sell quickly, it would be very easy to handle, and most of all, you are all so good to comment and let me know what you are thinking. I would like to make this blog strictly my embroidery item blog and my "read all" blog about my life in the country would still be Eggs In My Pocket Blog.
Just a peek at some of the things I am working on to sell.
You will learn more about this piece as I finish up and learn about what I need to do. I am working on a lot of vintage designs and lots of pretty new designs. So I plead with all of you, please tell me what you think.... I can't wait to hear from you. And thanks ahead of time for your advice.{:

  1. I believe you can do this! I have seen others do it! :)
Do you sell on etsy as well or not? :)
    I think...as long as it's OK...I think it is a fine idea!!!!! :)
I would LOVE to see some things you sell!!!

  2. Hello Sweet Kathleen,

I have seen many sell their wares on their blog. I don't think there is a problem doing it. I have also seen many from their blog lead you over to another blog where they sell their wares. It could be on your sidebar for the lead. I think it would be kinda fun to set up another blog as your store! Either is great!

If you go to my friend Bev's blog Sew on and So Forth (you can find it on my sidebar favorites) it leads to her store. She has had some good sells doing it that way!

Let me know what ya do! So thrilled for you!

  3. I am with the others, its a fine idea...its actually better than Etsy as there would be no charges (except for PP)...I use my embroidery blog to promote my things in Etsy but would love to just sell through the blog but I don't get enough hits like you do...Go for it!

  4. Well, here's my two cents, Kathleen. I’ve seen people selling items from their blogs, too. If it’s okay with Blogger, it might be worth a try. I think you would get more traffic to your goods if you listed on Etsy, however. It only costs twenty cents to list each item – and 3.5% (I think) if the item sells. You could still post photos and descriptions of your embroideries in this blog – with a direct link to Etsy in your sidebar.
You may also want to try EBAY – especially with the holidays approaching. The fees are more – but, again, there is greater exposure.
Wishing you great success in your business venture!!!

  5. I'm not sure about your question since I just started blogging, but I wanted to comment on your embroidery. It is beautiful. I just started teaching myself to embroider and I'll be looking on your blog for some inspiration.

  6. I think you have more freedom and less expense to try the blog first for selling - I understand lots of people do use Ebay and Etsy - but any expense when you are starting up is kind of tough. It isn't as if you don't have a following - so I am all for it! As long as we don't lose your wonderful notes about life in your part of the country on your other blog - always fun to shop and your handmade items are so beautiful!

  8. That is a wonderful question I am eager to hear opinions on. I have a web site too, and it is very hard for myself and Hubby to update. I love the ease Blog spots offer in writing and updating and editing. I do not want the writing in my blog to be spoiled by making it a site for profit, yet I am trying to sell goods I create at home, and the creation of goods I make from what I do at home IS part of what I do for fun too !

I would not be offended by you using your blog to show what you do and offer for sale. I have been thinking about this for awhile. I do use links to my site, and am still thinking about using my blog more aggressively to sell my stuff ! I'll be paying attention to your comments. Thanks !

  9. Thank you all so much for commenting on this and for your good advice. The reason I thought the blog would be easier is for the same reason that kathyb. states and also, with my work, it takes weeks to months for me to accumulate anything to sell. Once I did sell, it would take weeks to months to restock. Being on the internet website, might be too much for me now. This way, if it does not work out, I can just remove the blog. Thank you all for your input, and most of all, your friendship. I will keep this blog for chit chat reading as well as my Eggs in my Pocket blog, and create my shop blog.I still have much stitching to get done. blessings to you all. Kathleen

  10. YES! I definitly think you should sell your linens on your blog and/or Etsy. I would suggest, as others already have, that you have a separate "store" that is tied to this blog and vice-versa.I love to read your blog and would love seeing your linens, too. Go for it!

  11. Kathleen...I love the idea of featuring and offering your lovely items for sale on your blog. It would not offend me at all...in fact I'm very excited for you.
As long as this is acceptable with Blogger, I say...let your new adventure begin...hugs, Linda

  12. Hey Kathleen,

I hope you are doing well...I haven't been over to visit in a spell and wanted to say hello. :0)

You can setup your goods for sale on this blog or a seperate one..however, what I've read is to be sure you always include your personal journey and free designs, tutorials, etc. That way Blogger sees that your free blog is not just for profit making. I think that is simple enough since everyone likes to know about who they are buying from. :o)

You can take a look at my blog and see how I'm sharing lots of my vintage images..however, in the side bar (very soon) I will have pictures and links to some crochet items that I'm making and will be for sell.

You do beautiful work..can't wait to see how you set everything up. Blogger is fun to use and doesn't scramble my brain too bad..LOL

  15. Hi Kathleen,
Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you about this, but I can see that everyone before me has the same opinion anyway!
I think using blogs to sell anything is very clever - costs you nothing to advertise regardless of how much information and photos you post - unlike eBay!
If I was to sell stuff (now you've given me an idea...) I would create a separate blog just for that purpose, but I would also 'advertise' it on my other blogs, and ask my blog friends to mention it on theirs (I would happily do the same for you and anyone else).
    Hugs
    Gina
