It is amazing at what can be created

with a little bit of this...................

a whole lot of this...................

not very much of this................

and inspiration with just a few stitches on this....................

and it all comes to this!
I started this back in May.............I had been wanting to stitch this for the longest time..........

and then last year around Christmas time, this old chair was sitting in the back of a pickup, about to be tossed and destroyed at the dump. The man who was dumping it, graciously handed it to me upon my aksing.

When I saw the blank canvas on the back of the chair..........the chair just seemed to call out to me............and I knew, I had finally found the right spot for the cross stitched piece. I just finished sanding and staining the chair last week. Now I will begin fitting the cross stitched piece to the back of this chair. I need to also cover the seat.
I will show how it all comes together in my next post.
How about you?
Have you ever seen something and knew immediately that you had to do something with it?
I would love to hear!

  1. Dear Kathleen,

I loved the colours you used in your stitching for flowers! They look exceptional!

I am really looking forward to seeing the chair's transformation...

    Happy weekend!

  2. What a beautiful stitchery you did! It will look great on the chair, I am sure. I have a very old chair that I got when my grandparents died, and it needs new seat. I have put it off for about 30 years! Some day I'll do it, I swear!

  5. That cross-stitched piece is gorgeous. Years ago, I did a magnolia on black linen for my then mother-in-law -- so many creamy/peachy colors. It was beautiful but no way could I do it now. I have little patience and me eyes grow weary when I have to stare at such little tiny squares for so long. I can't wait to see how that chair turns out. I know it is gonna be fantastic. Best wishes, Tammy

  7. This will be beautiful! Can't wait to see the finished project! I do have a project which I felt just had to be done; ran into a size conflict and feel a little blue about it. Do I start over? or toss it?

  8. That is one gorgeous piece of cross stitch, Kathleen! I'm sure it will make that chair look beautiful, but you might want to not let anyone sit in it!
