I have posted about vintage handkerchiefs a while back......

and found that many of you love them as much as I.

I remember, as a child, watching ladies reaching into their handbags to pull out a beautiful handkerchief.............
I have collected a few over the years......some vibrant in print..........

others delicately embroidered.......
I love them all.

If you remember, a couple of posts back,  I posted about stitching small embroidery designs just for the love of stitching and getting small pieces done.........
I decided to turn some of my small embroidery into handkerchiefs!
 Do you like this idea?

So many times, when I am walking out in the Texas heat, or in a crowded, slightly air conditioned market..........a paper Kleenex does not last long when dabbing my face or neck.
This little hankie will take me a lot further............
They don't tear and stick to your skin like paper tissue.
I love small basket designs............

so many colors can be used to get a great effect.

I also embroidered a small design in the opposite corner.

Smaller, but still pretty.

So now, I have a handful of "homemade and hand stitched" handkerchiefs.
They fit perfectly in my back pocket if I am out in the garden heat...........

and they fit perfectly, tucked inside of a small bag, ready to use when I am out and about in town.
How about you?
I know you love vintage hankies............have you ever wanted to have some newly stiched  of your own to use?
I would love to hear.

  2. You have struck a cord with me about vintage handkerchiefs. I have about a dozen my mom gave me and have been saving them to "craft" with, but haven't come across anything in particular that touches me. Your work is beautiful & thank you for sharing it with us.

  3. I have several embroidered hankies that belonged to my grandmother. I remember carrying hankies when I was a kid. I have to admit that I haven't given any thought to embroidering them now. Yours are beautiful.

  4. Beautiful, Kathleen! I'd never take one of these to the flower garden though. I want to know, do you do the drawn work too?

  5. Beautiful Embroidery!

I had earlier seen dolls vintage dresses made out of vintage hankerchiefs. Not sure, if you might have seen it, but here is a link for the book.

  6. They are exquisite. Your post has brought back memories of my grandmother who always had beautifully embroidered handkerchiefs in her handbag or tucked up her sleeve.

  7. This is a very good idea, though I don't know if I could take such a beautiful hankie into the garden. I just love your embroidery and working on smaller items is sometimes a nice break from projects that take so long. I've been doing a few small cross stitch projects.

  10. I would love to make something like that, but would be so afraid to use it. I bought some cotton napkins around Christmas time, intending to embroider something on them, but so far have been afraid to try. My stitching skills aren't the greatest. I had a good time buying a bunch of pretty hankies several years ago at an antique shop in Ohio. Your work is always so pretty. Wishing you a great week. Tammy

  11. I have several from my mom and grandmom. I was going to use them as a valance over the 3 windows in my laundry room so I could see them all the time. But I dont have enough of the floral ones I love. I like your idea.....and maybe Ill do this to some of the plain ones I have here to add to that.

  12. Love all your sweet, pretty hankies! I love them and collect them, too. I remember my grandmothers always having a pretty hanky in a pocket, up a sleeve or somewhere close. I think it is those memories that draw me to them.
There are so many wonderful ways to display them and use them, too!

  13. Your collection and wonderful. I also love sweet and delicate hankies and have a collection too. Many my grandmother and mother stitched. I also have my dad's hankerchiefs some with his inital for suit pocket and the rest are plain, just waiting for me to do some embroidery.
Thank you for sharing your pretty hankies. Yes, they are very handy in our Texas heat.

    Have a great week.

  16. I have quite a little collection of hankies too, maybe 20 of them. They are so pretty. So much nicer than a plain white kleenex, don't you think? Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment, I'm glad you stopped by!
    Hugs,

  17. I have a hankie...given to me when I was a little girl. A blind man who went to our church when I was little...became my friend. He always brought me gifts...one being a handkerchief. I still have it. Thanks for the reminder!!
