I decided that I would design a blog header

and embroider it with the different images that I feel best expresses what I love in life and in embroidery.

It all starts with a thimble......with the initials for Yesteryear Embroideries

then the needle and floss.......as you see is attached to the Zinnia, as if it is still in the process of being embroidered.
Every year I grow different sized gardens of Zinnia along the grounds........

I have always turned to nature for inspiration in my embroidery design.......whether it be the zinnia, and buzzing bees. It has been a long time since I have seen a bumble bee. When I mention this to others, they tell me it is because they have been destroyed by chemicals and pesticides that are used in the fields nearby.

The wild thistle growing on the prairie has always held a special place in my heart. I love clusters of small blue butterflies that always seem to flutter about in the gardens.

I also love buttons and beads. Beaded flowers are one of my favorite things to embroider,

as well as clusters of blackberries......
along with  spiders and their webs.............

just for fun, I made a beaded worm, who seems to have been nibbling on the leaf above...........

All in all, a "logo" stitched to represent some of the things I love most.
How about you?
If you created your own logo......or header.........what would it show?
Roses or daisies?.........maybe a hummingbird or butterfly?
I would love to hear!

There are less bees..however its being attributed to a disease of some kind that hits there hives. Its happening across the nation.

  3. Great idea! I think I would go with roses and butterflies...I think. Maybe lilacs. It is hard to choose a favorite flower. Love them all. I really like the look of your blog with this! (Although, for me I needed to enlarge your page as the small font seemed a tad difficult to read. May be just me, but thought I would mention.)

  11. Simply gorgeous and such a reflection of you and your talents with the needle. You know I love to create embroidery treasures too. Not for sale, just for my own home and gifts. It is so relaxing. I remember being about 5 or 7 when my grandmother taught me all the stitches.
    Your new header is beautiful.

    Hugs, Celestina Marie

  12. Kathleen, this is splendid!! You really have made a beautiful header. I guess I'd have to go with some quilt design. :)

Today I studied various embroidery designs to use on a small crazy patch quilt. I wish I could take some lessons from you.

  14. I LOVE it, Kathleen! What a beautifully designed header. It's perfect for your blog. The colors are so delightful and cheery. Oh, the little touches like the threaded needle, the beaded flowers and blackberries are all so perfectly created...and I just adore the bumble bee and little beaded worm, the nibbled leaf. I'm still smiling as I type this. It really was a bright touch to the end of a busy work day.

    Blessings for more inspiration,
