thinking that you really like the way it is looking.............and then when it is finished, you find that you really do not like the end results?
That happens to me a lot. I spend a lot of time, planning, drawing out designs, and then embroidering for weeks and then after taking a good look...............I feel disappointed. This has happened to a few pillowcase sets that I have worked on.
A while back, a dark black butterfly landed on my hand and inspired me to embroider a set of pillowcases, making the butterfly look like this. I only embroidered one of the cases. Not happy with how the butterfly looked, I put the cases away.
Until the other day, I found them again and decided to pull out the embroidery I did not like and to re-stitch what I wanted. This seems much better. I finished embroidering both pillowcases,
then I crocheted the pillowcase end in the same light blue that the butterfly's wings have, and then added this sweet blue and white print fabric that has butterflies and flowers on it.
Now the set has a cottage look to it. Do you like it?
I also embroidered this vintage design onto a set of pillowcases a while back.
I love the cluster of flowers and the curve of the design.
I crocheted a white edge to the pillowcase and then added some of my very favorite vintage fabric.
Now the set has a shabby chic look........don't you think?
These cases look beautiful against a vibrant colored quilt............
or a vintage faded quilt.
How about you?
What are some things that you have created and then gone back to touch up or completely change?
I would love to hear!
Those are just lovely! Would you consider doing a tutorial? : ) Thanks, Angela
ReplyDeleteLove that vintage look!! It is beautiful... I have done lots I don't like...often I just throw it away:)....but the older I get maybe I have more patience ...but I do pick and redo!
ReplyDeleteI hate when I spend so much time and then not like the end result. Your remake of the butterfly turned out perfect. Sometimes I just get rid of the offending item and sometimes I redo also.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. I have to work, blah!
Love both of those. I liked the first butterfly, but love the redo.
ReplyDeleteI started my old Lucky Hearts quilt, but didn't like the edges of the hearts so I redid those. Now, I am not overly happy with the way the squares went together, so will probably redo that. Too many other projects I want to finish first.
Kathleen, these cases are just out of this world beautiful! I do like the second butterfly better.
ReplyDeleteThis happens to me a lot in my quilting; I've taken out quilting stitches and started over.
The butterflies look beautiful, Kathleen... and the touch of blue and white fabric was just what they needed!
ReplyDeleteLovely butterflies and your pillow cases look very beautiful with all these embroideries:) do you trace the design or just go with a free hand drawing? And what kind of pen do you use for it?
ReplyDeleteI generally keep on avoiding the messed up projects until I feel I have enough time and energy to look into it. Sometimes it takes months to return back. In rare cases, I have abandoned those completely.
Anything you create is beautiful but I can see why you felt the need to tone down the butterfly. I like the mix of embroidery with fabric and crochet to create something really unique and special. If I make something I don't like, I usually don't ever finish it -- just gets stuck in a basket or drawer never to see the light of day again. :/ Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what you meant about the first butterfly, but seeing the redo really made my eyes pop! These cases are so exquisite, I love to see the projects you do, so inspiring! I have a pillow top I've been going back and forth with for a couple years now. Someday, I may be satisfied with it, but today is not it!
ReplyDeleteThe pillowcases are truly beautiful. I love the mix of your beautiful work and the vintage prints. Of course, anyone who sews will have those times when something is just not right...always wise to keep a seam ripper close at hand.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous embroideries as always! I love those pillowcases, you did a beautiful job with those!
ReplyDeleteI love the end result!!!! They are beautiful!! I am starting and redoing ALL the time...part of it all!!
ReplyDeleteI certainly do like them.
ReplyDeleteThe two sets look wonderful! I like how you changed the butterflies. I hate to take stitches out though...it's always scary! :-)
ReplyDeletei THINK THEIR WONDERFUL. BUT YES I HAVE DONE THINGS THAT LATER I DIDN'T LIKE...BUT THESE ARE JUST LOVELY TO ME...HAPPY WEDNESDAY WITH LOVE JANICE
