With the last red berries
And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.
Elizabeth Coatsworth (1893–1986)
I love these lovely, pleasant November days! My husband, Sophie dog, and Taboo kitty and I love to take leisurely afternoon walks. I have been able to start having sales in my
vintage shop........the shop is now not too hot and not too cold.
I spend my days working with my handmades while waiting on visitors.
I finally managed to learn how to make Japanese Temari balls. I saw a photo of these kinds of pretty
balls of thread a few years ago........ordered a couple of books to learn how........and just now
got around to learning!
With the holidays fast approaching, my thoughts turn to the food I that want to prepare for our usual gatherings. I always try to find something that is pretty and tasteful. This year.....I am keeping it simple with the foods everyone loves..........but I am making at least one decorative pie. I made this one cherry pie the other day and was very happy at how cheery it looks!
I have also started painting my Mrs. Butterworth's bottles again and this time
hand crocheting dishcloths in matching colors for each bottle.
I was thinking these would be cute to put dish soap in........what do you think?
Has your weather turned more pleasant at this time of year?
What are your favorite foods for Thanksgiving?
Do you decorate early for Christmas.......or do you keep a fall them till after Thanksgiving?
Are you working on hand crafts at this time of year?
I would love to hear!
Temari balls are cute. First time i am seeing these kind of bottles and too with a different name. Matching dishclothes are a good idea.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness those Temari balls are a delight, so beautiful. Love the bottles and think hand ash or dish wash would be lovely along with a matching dish/wash cloth. I like to make a small gift to be included in the package and have made a start. I have made preserves/chutneys for neighbours and have stamped fabric for the lid.
ReplyDeleteI love taking walks at this time of year, though I like walking all times of the year. : )
ReplyDeleteWow that pie is a work of art. I'd ALMOST hate to eat it.
Cute bottles! My fav food for Thanksgiving would be the turkey. Janice
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I saw a painted Mrs. Butterworth bottle. I remember when that was a big thing to do. Glad your weather is more pleasant for visitors to your shop. I don't have any enthusiasm for the coming holidays. That pie is too pretty to eat. I do like to put up Christmas lights on the front deck so I'll be doing that this week, as we have snow in the forecast for next weekend. I don't turn them on until the day after Thanksgiving. I'm getting ready to hunker down for the winter.

I love your painted bottles. And of course the thread balls are amazing. That pie! Wow! It's funny 'cos I have been thinking of making a pie with cut out leaves and things for the top. It does look too pretty to eat!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say I've done some decorating-but not yet. And I don't do much out of the ordinary for Thanksgiving foods-just the usual!
