Summer Blooms

The weather has calmed down, bringing rain showers off and on and the strong winds seemed to have blown away to somewhere else.

The plants and Zinnia garden I have planted around the greenhouse are in full bloom and make the whole area cheery.
I experimented planting pink Rose Moss on top of a Caladium bulb and the results...... a beautiful pink and green Caladium in the center of the pink Rose Moss. If you click on the picture, you can see the Caladium peeking through in the middle. This really made me smile!
I love Zinnias. They are so easy to grow and when they get started, they are hearty and cheery!

I experimented with various sunflower seed this year. This is an autumn mix and I just love the color! The whole flower is the size of a small dessert plate!

I made a small sunflower garden in a section of my vegetable garden. There are bright yellows, light yellows, deep dark maroons and fall colors. I couldn't be more pleased! They are such hearty easy plants to plant. Ok, now, show me your pretty flowers! I can't wait to come visit your gardens!

My Cathedral

We have 13 acres of land

and most of it looks like this. To some it might look like an overgrown mess, to me, it is a canvas waiting to be worked on. When we first moved in, I wanted to fix a special place in the middle of these woods to stop and rest awhile, with paths and trails that twist and turn.

So I worked on it through out the years and am still working on it. This is the path that leads to my special place.

I like to come here early in the morning hours. It is a quiet place and surrounded with nature. The song, My Cathedral, by Jim Reeves, always comes to mind when I am working or just enjoying this place. ..... My cathedral has a ceiling of blue, my cathedral neath the sky. Where I lift up my eyes unto the hills and hear music from a stream rippling by....

My cathedral has an alter of flowers, their fragrant incense fills the air

In my cathedral, I am closer to Him than I could be anywhere.

For here I pray, in a place so grand, the carpet I kneel on was made by His own hand..

My cathedral has candles lighted by the stars and mighty pillars of trees,
No other cathedral is as beautiful, for God made my cathedral for me.....

I still have so much to do and plant here. It is a labor of love. I often tell friends and family, it is my one hundred year project. I will be working on it until I am 100. {: Now tell me, do you have a special place you like to go to? Is it on your property, or perhaps a neighborhood park? I would love to hear!

Old fences and morning glory

When we lived in town, we lived in an older house, built probably in the 1930's. Even though it was too small for our growing family and set in a harsh neighborhood, I loved it's quaint character. We had a corner lot and I spent my time making flower gardens anywhere I could. There was a section of very old fence that had been lying there when we moved in and my sweetie put it up for me. I grew morning glory beside it and every year it was adorned with beautiful petals of every hue. When we found our home out here, I just had to take the section of fence with me (pictured above). It matched our old historic home. Once again, every year, I plant morning glory.If you click on the picture, you can see the pretty design the old fence has. The plants really start growing and blooming through September through November here. By that time the harsh Texas wind and sun have calmed down a little and the weather is a little more comfortable for this flower. This year I have several morning glory spots. One that runs along the fencing on the pumpkin patch and another that runs along the greenhouse fence. Hopefully I will have more pictures to show as they bloom. Hibiscus time

Going into the nurseries at the local stores can be so inspiring! The Hibiscus plants are every where and in such brilliant colors! I always seem drawn to the pink ones!{: I had an Hibiscus plant a couple of years ago. It did well at first and then died. Do any of you have one. How do you care for it? Is it an inside or outside plant.

I did something different to this towel. I ran a blanket stitch all the way around and then on the bottom edge, I crocheted an edging. I have stitched so many of these little towels and I always give them away to visiting friends or family. I keep thinking I will someday have some stacked up to sell,..... maybe one day. The joy I get from giving them away can't not match the dollar mark!{:

Happy July 4th weekend!

Hello everyone! Life once again has swept me away into the busyness of the many things I need to get done. I've been lost in pumpkin vines, knee high weeds, new flower beds planned and planted, and the ever wonderful pile of embroidery floss. The upcoming holiday will keep my hands busy, but I hope to return with pictures and words to let you know what has been happening. To all of you and your family, have a wonderful July 4th holiday!
