The Paths We Take

When I was a very young woman, my head was filled with dreams of traveling the world.....
and becoming a writer.......also........ deep inside my heart........ was a dream
of living on a farm,

raising lots of chickens.....

and lots of children.

One day, I met the man of my dreams....tossed my traveling, writing ideas out the window.....

and started a family.....much smaller than my first idea.

Then........
One day....it happened...we moved to our country home....which I am trying to make into a farm.
(yes, this is our home and that is a real rainbow I captured right over it!)

I still write....when time permits.....
but I took a path in life that has me cooking and baking,

doing the laundry,

and pursuing my other passion...embroidery.

A wonderful path where morning glories bloom,

pumpkins grow....

ducks waddle,

and chickens roam.

As I sit out in the late afternoon.....I sometimes wonder what life would be like if I had taken another path.....

But I am glad that this is my path in life.....
and I am happy about where that path will lead me.

So now......all of you.....go back ...what were your dreams and plans....why did you choose to do what you are doing now? I can't wait to hear!

I'm living my dream. To be a wife and mommy, live in the country and raise my country kids!

Hmm, I had a million dreams. I wanted to be a teacher, nurse, historian, archeologist, Country singer, and mom. I wanted to live in a big white farmhouse and have 10 kids. I also wanted to marry Sean Cassidy.

You have such a neat life! I love the picture of your sweet house! The rainbow is beautiful! (Our house has a rainbow window. It was there when we bought it.) Hope you have a lovely weekend! ~Mandy

Your dreams are similar to mine but God has had different plans for me. I know if I keep my focus on Him then the path I go down will lead me where He needs me to be. I have found His plan is better than mine.

Oh Kathleen. You have such a way of putting things in prospective. I too had dreams but...

They sure didn't come to fruition the way I planned, but in truth I'm sure I've realized them afterall. To be a mother was not in my plans, but I am so glad that choice was taken out of my hands (in one way of speaking). I love being a Mother and I love those 4 kids, 2 sons in love, 2 daughters in love and 13 grands.

Originally, I dreamed of being a nurse. I ended up having a desk job, using a computer to work on blueprints.

I planned on having a few kids, but by the time I got married, changed my mind. Didn't even think about church life in my dreams. I married a man with a daughter, who was 18 at the time. Now, I have a 3 year old Grandson, & 15 kids at church. Most of them are teenagers from troubled homes. I'm an unofficial youth director.

Music was never a dream of mine, but now, I'm part of a praise team, getting the Sunday morning services started.

I always liked playing with electronics, but never thought I'd use any of it for church video & sound systems.

My life doesn't fit any of my old dreams, except for being married. Seems God had different dreams for me, & I'm glad He did. Now, I can't imagine living my original dream.

Your post brings to mind that song..."it's a beautiful life...." and indeed it is when we acknowledge and are thankful for what God has allowed into our lives...for our good!

Oh, Kathleen...I was on a path that led to college, and studies in Germany; I wanted to travel the world, and someday settle down to marry and raise a family. The week that I registered for college, my best friend called and wanted me to go on a double date- with her and her boyfriend and his best friend, Don. And so I agreed....I took one look at Don, and I never did go back to that college campus- we were married 6 months later, and on February 14, we celebrated 34 years of marriage! I didn't travel the world, but I did raise that family, and honestly, I can't imagine a better life than the one I've had.
Blessings and hugs,
Pam

I am 42 and living half of the dream... have a wonderful Hubby, a child, and I grandchild... being military I just want to click my heels and move us all home... :-) I am working on that now. Or should I say I am letting God handle it, because that is closer to the truth than anything!

Wonderful post!

Kathleen, I so identify with this post. Isn't it funny where the choices we make take us? But, like you, I love my life - even though it wasn't what I'd planned. And I wouldn't change it for anything!

Growing up on a farm, I certainly didn't think I would ever live on one again... I thought bright lights and big cities were in my future! But as it turned out, I found out there is nothing like getting back to your roots, and growing where God plants you!

My path is different.... better by far than what I would have chosen. Isn't God good? all the time!

Lovely! I'm living my dream in our old farmhouse, and I'm really happy that you've been able to make your dreams come true, too! (I had wanted to be a teacher, but to my children, I am their teacher!) I love your farm, especially the chickens!
