My butterfly is finished

and I had the right kind of project I wanted to fit it into.............

I made it into a mason jar pin cushion!  I love mason jars...........
do you?

I then started filling the jar with some of my favorite things from some of my collections.
Old wooden spools with the thread still on........which by the way is still excellent thread!
Also a small pair of scissors.

which I just replaced with an older metal pair............
much better, don't you think?

I love shaped beads so a beaded flower was perfect to go with the butterfly..........
don't you think?

I also added an old thimble and yes, there is an old square  mother of pearl button.

I had another mother of pearl button...........I love those things!

I also added a twirl wire with a beaded flower to hang on the outside of the jar.

And then to finish it off, a jeweled heart charm...........
to represent the friendship I share with a friend who is coming to stay for a few days..........
who loves butterflies and is an excellent quilter...........
and is the only one I would share my collections with......
the whole reason I put the jar together!

The wildflowers and butterflies are all over the grounds here at the farm
and just as butterflies and flowers go together..........
so do friends and sewing projects.......
don't you think??
How about you?
Do you still have friendships from way back when you went to school?
Do you see each other often.........or maybe once a year?
What do you do when you get together?
 I would love to hear!

  2. I love your embroidered butterfly and how clever to use a mason jar. I do use left over food jars to hold some of my collections. I have the old spools and tons of embroidery thread I have bought at yard sales. Right I am working on a pin cushion which I will share later this week.

  5. Your jar is lovely. A perfect gift.

My best friends have gone from the earth. Its hard to connect with new people and become close, at least at my age. That leaves Terry, who is my best friend and not perfect, but darn close, husband.

I know you will enjoy your friend's visit.

  11. Kathleen, it turned out so pretty, and what a grand idea to use it as a cushion on the collecting jar. Your friend will love it.

I don't have any school friendships anymore, but I've met the best friends when older, and now some very sweet ones blogging.

    Blessings,

  12. I was thinking what a wonderful thing for you to have as you sit down to sow and have these items together. It would make sewing a joy. Then I read further that you have made this as a gift for your friend. She will just love it! What a wonderful thing to do for her. I have sewing friends come here each week and I know how special this could be to them.

  13. Your mason jar pinkeeps are super sweet! the butterfly is lovely. You always do such amazing work! I do see college friends from time to time, but mostly keep in touch with high school friends via facebook, as I no longer live near the schools I attended.
