Rock- a- bye baby quilt is finished!

and is on it's way to wait in the nursery and to welcome in the new baby!
as you remember from my last post, my niece is decorating her nursery in black and white with a "rock music " theme.

I designed the quilt with the hand embroidery and applique motifs in the middle.......

I chose a pretty black, white, and gray fabric for the back of the quilt

I looks pretty quilted........

I also quilted large blocks of my niece's favorite colors to fill up the space............

And about 2 in the early morning hours............I put in the last stitch.
No matter what it is I am stitching on...........from a cross stitch picture........embroidered table linens.......to a small quilt.........
I am always thrilled to be finished...........but always feel completely drained..........
do you fee that way when your finish a project? But by that same afternoon.......my hands feel anxious to get to work on a new project.
Besides making my own children's quilts when they wee small........this is the first baby quilt I have made in a long time.
Tell me...........how many baby quilts or blankest have you made over the years?

  4. Though I have sewn clothes, purses and dolls, I have never made a quilt yet, though I do have one in progress. Right now it's hard to put my crazy quilt blocks to the side.

This quilt is so sweet. I like every motif you stitched. Be sure to get a pic when the gift is given.

    Have a great day,
    xx, Carol

  5. Your quilt turned out lovely and is so unique! I have crocheted and knitted baby blankets through the years, the most recent one being a couple of weeks ago.

Like you, I'm always glad when a project is finished but start wanting to work on another one immediately if not sooner. :-)

Have a great week ~ FlowerLady

  6. Your quilt turned our so lovely! Your niece will love it. I have been making lots of baby quilts over the past 30 years, but I never made one for my sons when they were born. Funny

  7. The rockin' baby quilt is awesome! Quilts can look old fashioned and modern and never go out of style!! Finishing a project always makes me feel so good, I tend to go at a slow pace so I don't feel too worn out. When I sew on the machine I am always exhausted!!!

  8. How very, very sweet of you to make this quilt! I'm glad you included butterflies and birds and your lovely embroidery work. I have 17 finished baby quilts, one on the frames being quilted, and three tops waiting in line. I've given several away over the years, but have only sold a few. Baby quilts are fun to make!

  9. Oh this is wonderful! I love the stitching-all that hand work is a thing to be treasured as well! Your design and the colors are wonderful. I have never made a quilt! As much as I love fabric and anything to do with sewing-it is very odd that I have not made one yet. I had a very sweet neighbor friend who was teaching me the basics-but very sadly, she passed away last year. I miss her terribly-we had so much fun together. She taught me to crochet. We would sit together every Tuesday and work on a project and gab. I miss her!
Didn't mean to write a book here! :)

  10. Kathleen, I absolutely love how you have interpreted this Rock quilt! It is a masterpiece, and I'm sure she will be delighted with it. How precious that you included bits of the grandparents' clothing. It will surely be a treasure for years to come. Great job!

  12. Hi, Kathleen..

I'm just getting back to blogland, as I've been a bit under the weather with a cold/sinus infection. But recovering well.

Your quilt is MOST BEAUTIFUL!!!! Oh,my goodness, your niece is going to LOVE it, and just think how it will be used by your grand niece for years and years to come! I love the applique and the stitching, and most of all the lovely way you put them all together. The bird singing the musical notes as they float into ethereal bliss is perfect lovliness! You are a most talented and exciting woman, and I am so happy to know you.

I've never done a baby quilt (or any quilt for that matter), though I started to work with applique once thinking it would make a wonderful artistic picture, but I never finished it. But I've crocheted many a baby blanket, and I like that they can be used for many years and hopefully many generations.

Be well, my friend, and many blessings for more creative successes!!

  13. It's wonderful!!! Love this, and I know they are going to. It will be a treasure the child can keep always! Yes, I get very very exhausted when I do any kind of sewing or embroidery, and I have to take it in small spurts. I start getting so weary of the project and anting it DONE! When it is finally done, there is such a sense of relief. I love doing it, doing get me wrong, it just takes a lot out of me. And what a sense of accomplishment to see the finished project!
