Although my work basket is full

of the various embroidery projects I have already started and am in the middle of stitching........
I have decided to ..........and I say very seriously......"attempt"
to embroider this lovely Victorian lady.
This is one of Raphael Tuck & Sons prints/postcard.
I discovered Raphael Tuck & Sons a little while back , and was
captivated with the images of lovely Victorian ladies, with their large hats, adorned with roses..... and then there are the sweet children ......little girls and babies ...dressed in pinafores......surrounded with flowers.
I have always loved the Victorian rose and floral images for as long as I can remember...........
but now........my attention is on the ladies, with the large flower covered hats.
What caught my heart the most......is the soft colors used to create these beautiful images.
I have not worked the stitch concept out yet..........but I have picked out the color of floss that closely matches the picture.
When I come back here........in a few days........weeks???  I hope to have a stitched
photo to show you.
So.........how about you? Do you love Victorian era art......or images?
What is your favorite?  Roses, floral.......or ladies and children?
I would love to hear!

I love this type of art! You will love doing a project like this, I think. It will be a little bit like capturing a bit of the past with your needle and floss.

I love the Victorian era! Many years ago, (I was married at the time...am divorced now), my then husband used to purchase a subscription to Victoria Magazine for me, he knew how much I loved it! I am looking forward to seeing what you do here. :)

When I was a little girl, I remember visiting my great-grandma's house. It was FULL of Victorian things-even though I didn't know it then-I did know I loved what I saw. First-on all the guest beds there was one of those beautiful old dolls-the kind that people pay hundreds for now. The dolls were completely dressed and their eyes would shut if you moved their heads. There were silk crazy quilts, velvet draperies, old statues, lace, ornate bird cages (filled with canaries!). All this makes me sound ancient too-but it was in the 1960's. I think she just liked that way of living and didn't care that it was out of style. It was a simple home, but the beautiful decorations and old prints on the walls made such an impression on me, I love it all to this day.
I can't wait to see what you do with the embroidery!!!

How beautiful! I love the roses and I love to take a closer look at the pillows on Downton Abbey. A lot of them are needlepoint and I try to see what the designs are. You've probably noticed them too, on the sofas in the library. Hugs!

I, too, love these Victorian vintage paintings. I'm sure you will do a lovely piece of work with it, Kathleen. I'm missing painting, and my hope is to return to it soon.
I hope you are well, and enjoying your creative ventures and shop.

Love,
Marianne xo
