Broken threads and fragile holes

make these precious vintage baby sweaters......
"unwantable"

I cannot resist them

even if they have a few holes that cannot be repaired.
The work on these charming garments are amazing.
I have had them for awhile and finally came up with an idea to show them off

I placed them on vintage print paper and framed them.

Now the lovely work that goes into these sweet pieces

can be preserved and admired.
How about you? Do you still have your baby sweaters or hats?
What do you do with them?
I would love to hear!

If you go to my country living blog you can read about these baby coons that wound up on the grounds this past week.

I've saved clothes that belonged to my three little girls; I'm not sure they want them now, but maybe someday. Also, I have two of my own dresses from about age nine, and a little band uniform I wore in the first grade. For a time I kept them hanging on display. My mother-in-law gave us a sailor suit she made for my husband when his dad was in the Navy.

These are such sweet sweaters you have!

Lucky little ones who once wore these precious baby sweaters. They are works of art and should be preserved. We still have our children's crocheted baby sweaters made by their great grandmother.

I love this idea and you showing how the old baby sweaters really can look good and be preserved. When one considers how much work , often lovingly done, has gone into the precious baby sweaters, hats, and booties it seems sad they are tossed into the donation bins or garbage pails. This is a wonderful alternative !

Oh Kathleen, this really resonates with me. So many beautifully hand knitted and crocheted babies garments used to come into the opshop where I worked for a while, and guess who bought them for 50c a piece? Little girls who wanted to dress their dolls! I thought it was so charming that the little clothes had a new life of being loved.
My late mother-in-law gave me the first bib she had made for my husband when he was born. She was very sentimental and was so pleased to find a kindred spirit in me, as I just love that little stained embroidered bib and have shown it to so many people since she gave it to me. Everyone thinks it is so sweet! It has a scotty dog embroidered on it. It's on one of my blogs somewhere..if you want to see it, email me and I'll email you a photo :-)

Framed is a nice way to save and display vintage pieces. You see them all the time in estate sales. Yesterday I found two glorious doilies that will find their way into some future project. Nice story on the raccoon. A few years ago we had a mother and babies killed on the highway. Not as young as yours. That day, a small one began living under our deck. We made sure it had food. I remember one thunderstorm night it huddled at our patio door. I sat there talking softly to it while it thundered. It lived under the deck all summer then I saw it go off with an older raccoon that often came to share the food. I'm pretty sure they became a couple.

I love the way you preserved these pretty baby items, Kathleen. You can hang them in your shop...so delightful. I still have some of my baby things, and my son was able to wear a few things my mother sent when he was a baby from her cedar chest...and now I have them in mine for the next generation. But I like your idea for featuring any that can't be used.

Thank you for your sweet and kind comment on my blog. You are a dear, and an awesome friend!

I tried to leave a comment on your Country living section, but it didn't work. I'll try again.

Blessings for a lovely evening,

I seem to need a google account to sign in on your Country blog, which I don't have. I'll have to check into that. The following is the comment I was going to leave there:

How sweet! You were their guardian angel. I need to come by this side of your blog more often. I love the scripture verse above...it is my dream.

Love,

They look lovely framed. A friend had her husband's christening gown and booties framed like that and hung above an old Singer sewing table. Very pretty.

Oh they are so pretty! I think the holes make them even more endearing. I have two very old baby items from I think my great-grandmother. One is a delicate baby bonnet, and the other is a long white gown. Both are hand stitched and decorated with lace that I think was tatted. I have them stored away, but I may copy your idea and frame them.
