Imagine my delight, when I heard that my niece is expecting a baby!.............

I instantly grabbed hook and yarn............
not yet knowing whether the baby will be a boy or a girl, I chose a soft sunny yellow.
With that I made these pieces...........

adding a white scallop to the arm edges

and to the neck

and it all came together..........
like this. Sweet, simple.........but plain.
I wanted what I made for the baby to be "unique"

so I cross stitched this sweet little chick

chose a floral print fabric to match...........

and created a sweet little pocket for the sweater.

I also added a cross stitch button I had made

and attached it to the neck.
Now the sweater looks even more sweet and a little more unique.

I made and embroidered a baby bib to go with it.
The baby will arrive during the fall, so I made this a 6 month size so that it can fit during the winter and early spring.
I hope I might get a photo of the baby wearing it at one point.
How about you?
When you hear about a new arrival.......what do you like to give?
Something handmade?........or something precious and new?
I would love to hear!

Oh my gosh that is so precious! I love the special touches, that make it unique and from you! I'm sure this will become a treasured keepsake by a lucky mother and her baby for many years. With the announcement of my great grand daughter, I made a quilt.

very cute sweater. The unique touch makes the sweater even more beautiful. Yesterday I came to know that one of my friend is carrying and I've decided to do a baby blanket. Handmade things are precious and for those who value it, is even more precious.

OMGOSH! I love it, love it, love it. Not only is it handmade with love, you have added far more personalized touches that make the gift all the more special. I like to give personalized gifts too. I have never crocheted a garment other than hats. I like to make baby afghans. Before I started embroidering again, I made each one of my neices an afghan. At the time their ages were about 5 through 20. They always comment about the blanket I made them. I love to give unexpected gifts.

This is such a sweet, sweet gift! SO pretty!
I give crocheted baby afghans, or baby quilts, to special people. I guess I get more pleasure out of making them than the person receiving them does. I gave a quilt to a young woman one time and later learned she lost it! So that makes me think twice about giving away something.

You truly made this baby sweater personal and sweet. What a very special gift. This is one reason I like to follow your blog posts; you make everything you do special in some way. Taking ordinary and making it above and beyond. I think hand made personal gifts are the best. The sweater and bib go great together.

Kathleen, your baby sweater is adorable!! I love the color and the scalloped edges...and of course the pocket is simply unique and wonderful! I would never think of adding a cross stitch on canvas for a pocket - I love the idea. And lining it with that pretty cotton tops it off nicely. Button also is so sweet. Your niece is going to be so happy to receive this.

Yes, I love to make special baby items, too. I think they are nice because they can become heirlooms, being passed down from generation to generation. I know yours will.

Thank you for dropping by my blog earlier this week, and for your sweet comment. It's always a pleasure to hear from you.

Blessings for a delightful weekend,

You have created a beautiful sweater and made it unique. I would not have thought of putting a pocket on it and the button. So cute. I make quilts, in fact, just went to a baby shower yesterday for twin girls and made pink quilts.
